Main Entrance Vastu: Directions, Rules & Remedies
In Vastu Shastra the main entrance is the "mouth" of the home — the point through which energy, opportunity and people enter. Its direction, size and condition set the tone for the whole house, which is why it is the first thing any Vastu check looks at.

Main Entrance Vastu do's
- Make the main door the largest and most solid door in the house, ideally of good-quality wood.
- Let the door open inwards and clockwise, and keep the hinges free of creaks.
- Keep the entrance well lit, especially after sunset.
- Place a clean nameplate and an auspicious symbol such as a swastika, Om or toran above the door.
- Keep a raised threshold (dehleez) to separate the outside from the home.

- Do not keep shoes, dustbins or broken items at the main door.
- Avoid a toilet, staircase or lift directly facing the entrance.

Which direction is best for the main door as per Vastu?
North, North-East and East are the best directions for a main door because they bring in morning sunlight and the energy of wealth and growth. The exact position along the wall (the pada) also matters.
Is a South-facing main door bad?
Not always. A door in the South-East half of the South wall is weaker, but one in the middle of the South wall can be acceptable. Remedies such as metal strips at the threshold and good lighting reduce the effect.
What should be kept near the main door?
